Global Steps AA Meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Only One Reason-Came to Believe Pg 97

I believe we are all sober and alive for only one reason: God has a job for us to do. I have also come to believe that I must please God first, myself second, and everybody else third. When I can live and feel that way -- and it isn't all day every day -- things seem to work out. When I try to run the show, everything goes to hell.

I know most folks have a problem with putting themselves second in this equation, but truthfully... if we aren't physically, mentally, and spiritually fit, what use are we to anyone else? I must clean out my own backyard before I can even pretend to help another clean out his. I must have that experience under my belt.... that profound spiritual awakening... of the educational variety or those that take time... but I must have that spiritual awakening before I can help another. At least, that's what I believe. MDK
